Birth of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (R.A)
Syed Ali was born in 1009 A.D in Hajveer (Ghazni). He later on became famous with the name of Data Ganj Bakhsh (Rehmatullah Alaiy). He was born in the reign of Mehmood Ghaznavi. He belonged to a pious and religious family. Apart from Ghazni, Syed Ali spent many years in Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Kharasan and Syria for seeking knowledge.
Spiritual chain of Data Sahib:
In spirituality, he chose Sheikh Abul Fazal Muhammad Bin Hassan Khatli as his spiritual master. He spent some time with his mentor. Then he was ordered to go to Indian Subcontinent. Data Ganj Bakhsh reached Lahore with his two companions only. He arrived at Lahore in 431 Hijri. At that time Ghaznavi rulers was ruling here for 20 years.
Services rendered by Data Sahib:
After reaching Lahore Data Ganj Bakhsh built a mosque. A religious learning centre (Madrasah) was also built along with it. Data Sahib started the task of spreading purity and love among the masses. It was due to the spiritual effects of his personality and his pious attitude that many people of the started accepted Islam. Lives of many Muslims were turned by Data Ganj Bakhsh (R.A). In that part of the country, he spread his followers and students to every nook and corner. He lived in Lahore for 34 years till his death. He remained a fountain of knowledge and spirituality during all that period.
Books of Data Ganj Bakhsh (R.A):
Data Ganj Bakhsh (R.A) had written many books. The most renowned and famous book of Data Ganj Bakhsh (R.A) is called “Kashful Majoob”. This book contains all the details and mechanism of spirituality and insight learning.
Tribute paid by many:
As said earlier Data Ganj Bakhsh (R.A) is ranked very high among the saints of Sub-continent. So, many Kings and famous saints have paid tribute to Data Sahib by visiting his shrine. Many renowned sufis and saints have been blessed by Data Ganj Bakhsh (R.A). Hazrat Khwaja Muinuddin Chishti Ajmeri came to Lahore in 580 Hijri and spent many days in “Chilla” at the shrine of Data Ganj Bakhsh (R.A). Sultan Ibrahim Ghaznavi and Sultan Shamsuddin Altutmish sent the self written copies of Holy Quran to shrine of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (R.A).
Death of Data Sahib:
Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh Syed Ali Hajveri (Rehmatullah Alaiy) breathed his last in 465 Hijri. He was buried in the same place (Lahore) where he spent 34 years of his life for the service of Islam. People from every shade of life still visit his shrine in great number with great reverence. According to a report by the Auqaf Department, about ten thousand people fulfill their appetite daily from the meal (Langar) that is distributed free at the shrine of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (Rehmatullah Alaiy).
